Task G Clarification – Gap Labels, Ring Counting & Scoring

Hi everyone,
I’m Tanjila Akter Simi, working on Task-G (Visual / Color Acuity) for RoboCup RRL 2026. I’ve gone through the official rulebook and fabrication guide, but I have some confusion around the gap direction labels, ring counting, and how scoring works.

The official rulebook only states:
G - VISUAL/COLOR ACUITY (1 point) — Concentric Cs.
“Process: Identify the gap in the ring 3 levels deep.”

Since the rulebook doesn’t go into further detail, I’m hoping to get some clarification on the following:

  1. What exactly do the gap direction labels mean?
    • Is the naming based on which way the opening of the C-shape faces, rather than a measured angle?
    • Does “Left 90°” simply mean the gap is fully open toward the left (like 9 o’clock on a clock face)?
    • Is there an official reference diagram or explanation of this labeling system in the rules?

  2. How should the operator report the answer to score the task?
    • Does the operator need to announce both the ring colour and the gap direction, or is one enough?
    • Should they use the chart label (e.g. “Left 90°”) or is a plain direction word (e.g. “left”, “lower-right”) acceptable?
    • If the colour is right but the gap direction is wrong (or the other way around), is any partial point awarded?
    • Is there a specific verbal format required, or is any clear spoken answer accepted?

  3. Ring counting — confirming which ring is scored.
    • Is the coloured outer ring excluded from the count, making ring 3 the 3rd black C-ring inward?
    • Is ring 3 consistent in size across all competition targets (1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, etc.)?

I’d really appreciate clarification on all of the above before the competition.

Thanks in advance

Please review the latest rules. Visual acuity is no longer part of the scoring matrix
